36TH IPEG MEETING · NAPLES 2027

Welcome message

Dear Members of IPEG, ESPES and SICP, Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends, Welcome to the 36th Annual Congress of IPEG! To those joining us for the first time, as well as to our new members, I extend a particularly warm welcome to our community. We are delighted to bring together some of the most innovative pediatric surgeons from around the world in Naples, Italy, from April 27 to May 1, 2027.

It is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to organize the IPEG Congress in my home region for the second time, following the successful meeting in Sorrento in 2023 and now in Naples in 2027.

As you know, IPEG was founded in 1991 as an international organization dedicated to fostering new ideas, techniques, innovation, education, and research in pediatric minimally invasive surgery. Its mission is to ensure that pediatric surgeons, pediatric urologists, and all surgeons caring for infants and children have access to the most up-to-date knowledge on the safest and least invasive surgical treatments, while promoting the development and evaluation of innovative approaches through peer-to-peer communication, education, and research.

Over the years, IPEG has continued to evolve, adapting its organization, educational activities, and congress format while remaining firmly committed to its original mission and goals. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotic surgery, and ICG fluorescence-guided surgery are revolutionizing the surgical field, and these exciting topics will be extensively explored during our Congress. The Congress will provide a valuable opportunity to exchange scientifically relevant knowledge not only on surgical techniques, but also on the diagnosis and management of pediatric surgical conditions, with a particular focus on minimally invasive approaches.

This year’s IPEG Congress will be organized with the participation of European Society of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons (ESPES) and Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery (SICP), further strengthening international collaboration and scientific exchange.

The Congress will span four and a half days. The first two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, will be dedicated to pre-congress educational activities, including courses on robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery using animal models; dry-lab endourology covering VUR injection models, general endourology, stone disease, RIRS, and balloon dilatation; an IPEG Mastery Learning Course using ex vivo models; and a theoretical course on robotic surgery. The following two and a half days—Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning—will be devoted to the main scientific program. Sessions will take place in a 550-seat main auditorium, a 200-seat auditorium dedicated to young surgeons, and a 150-seat hall hosting “Quick Shots” and poster presentations.

During the panel discussions, internationally renowned experts will explore the latest developments in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery, fistuloscopy, applications of artificial intelligence in MIS and robotics, endourology, ICG fluorescence-guided surgery, and many other innovative approaches to the surgical care of infants and children. This year, IPEG will place a special emphasis on young surgeons. An entire auditorium will be dedicated to them, and we have also organized the MIS and Robotics Olympic Games, where teams representing different continents will have the opportunity to test their technical skills in a friendly and stimulating competition. In addition, we have planned interactive, audience-participation sessions using Google Forms, allowing attendees to actively contribute to discussions and share their perspectives in real time.

Led by our Program Chairs, Maria Escolino, Hanna Alemayehu, and Silvana Prodan, the scientific committee has worked enthusiastically to develop an exciting, innovative, and engaging program designed for all those attending the Congress. I would also like to express my special thanks to my fantastic Pediatric Surgery Team, as well as to Maurizio Cuzzolin and MGM Congress, for their invaluable support and commitment to making this event possible.

To make our IPEG Congress in Naples even more memorable, I would like to remind you that Naples will also be hosting the America’s Cup in 2027. Our congress venue, the Royal Continental Hotel, overlooks the sea and the race area, offering participants a unique opportunity to experience the atmosphere of this extraordinary international sporting event while attending the Congress. For football enthusiasts, free time will also offer the opportunity to visit the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium and, depending on the match schedule, experience the unique atmosphere of an SSC Napoli match.

I wish you all a fabulous Congress, filled with stimulating scientific discussions, new collaborations, friendship, and memorable experiences. Above all, I hope you will also have the opportunity to discover and enjoy the extraordinary beauty, culture, and hospitality of Naples. I look forward to welcoming you all to Naples in 2027!

Sincerely,
